Paul van den Hoek

Paul has been a partner at Stibbe from 1969 until 2009, since when he continued to serve Stibbe and its clients as of counsel and senior advisor. His experience and skills rest upon three pillars: that of a practising lawyer mainly in the field of corporate and arbitration law; that of a professor in corporate law at the Free University of Amsterdam and that of a longtime service as Chairman and member of Supervisory Boards of public and non-public companies.

Having been widely recognized as one of the leading corporate lawyers in the Netherlands and mentioned as one of the most influencial persons in the Dutch corporate community he now makes that blend of experience available in assisting with the solution of corporate and other conflicts and providing second opinions on a variety of matters. He also acts as arbitrator, binding advisor, and as Board member appointed by the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal with companies that are subject of litigation before that court.

The companies where Paul was Chairman or member of the Supervisory Board include AON Nederland, ASM International, Ballast Nedam, Corporate Express, Euronext, Financieel Dagblad Groep, the Robeco Group and Wavin.

Paul served on various committees like the Commission on Corporate Law of the Ministry of Justice, the Van Der Grinten Commission (on hostile take-overs and protective devices) and advisory Committees of the SER dealing with a new SER Merger Code and the future of the "structure regime" applicable to large corporations. Paul was President of the Netherlands Bar Association.
